This afternoon we had a STEAM challenge... to build a bridge that would hold up the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We could use a piece of card, lego and sticks.
How can we make our bridges sturdy?
Watch out for the nasty troll!

More Ag Day Fun
There were all sorts of interesting characters who came to take part in Goodwood School's Ag Day this year. These visitors seemed to enjoy watching the fun, but seemed a bit stuffed by all the action.
What clever scarecrow creations! Do you know who created these cool scarecrows?
We loved meeting all of the stars of the show. We are so proud of our classmates for bringing along their animals.

Ornithologists
We have been visiting our Goodwood School forest as ornithologists. We did a bird count. We saw mostly sparrows and some piwakawaka.
We have noticed that there aren't many native birds in our school forest. We noticed that our forest doesn't look like a healthy forest. There are holes through the forest... we can see the paddock through it!
We wonder, how can we attract more native birds to our school forest? We have written to the Cambridge Tree Trust to ask if they can help us with finding plants for our forest. They said yes!

Monday Week 6
We had to think really carefully and chat to our buddy so we could help each other. We discovered it was 25 blocks!! |
We think we might have to plant more trees with flowers and berries and then maybe the birds might come back. |

Book Week - Read, Read, Read!
Book Week - Toitoi
The Edior of Toitoi visited Goodwood School today. Toitoi is a New Zealand publication of children's writing and art. Charlotte read to us and shared the amazing work in the Toitoi books. She told us that we can submit writing and/or art to Toitoi by the end of each term. Work is selected to be in the Toitoi book each term. We loved reading and hearing wonderful created by other children around New Zealand. There were some really clever artworks in the books too!

Using our favourite toys for mass
This week we used blocks to weigh, and measure our toys tummy, height and weight. We could use our knowledge to count in 2's to make it quicker to count all the blocks. |
We helped each other to measure and record our findings in our maths books |
Some of our toys were so heavy we needed lots of blocks. We helped by grouping the blocks into 10's. |
Counting in 10's is so much faster. |
Nickle Nackle Birds
We have been finding out about bird beaks. Birds have different shaped beaks to use for eating different things.
We read Lynley Dodd's The Nickle Nackle Tree. Lynley Dodd used her imagination and curiosity about birds to create new birds who sit in the Nickle Nackle tree.
What a cool idea! We thought it would be fun to create our own birds, thinking about all the things we know about birds.... beak shapes, feet shapes, body shapes, eye shapes, feathers....
It was so much fun creating our birds! Thanks Lynley Dodd for inspiring us with your funny artwork.
